Highclere Castle is a must to visit if you are a fan of Downton Abbey! The tour guide is great! She has a lot of knowledge about the series and the history of the Castle

  2. Rhonda

Great trip! Informative and on time!
Eva was a lovely tour guide. Maybe more history could be added?

  3. Sara_N

What an absolutely magical day! Eva was a great tour guide and seemed to love Downton just as much as all of us on the tour. Bampton was idyllic and perfect (we also had great weather). There is a little co-op on the Main Street if you need to grab a quick snack or drink. Highclere is everything we imagined it would be and more. The cafe has a selection of cold sandwiches for lunch, some pastries, and some warm sausages/paninis. There is also a GREAT little cocktail bar and ice cream truck. The only downfall was that the ride could get bumpy so there was so car sickness happening but overall, it was a delightful day.

Emma was so pleasant, knowledgeable and enthusiastic on our Downton Abbey tour. We had an amazing time!

  5. Patricia_C

I had a great time! Emma was awesome! Visiting Bampton (village in Downton Abbey) first was so fun. Then off to the castle. We had plenty of time in each place and a lot of time to visit the castle and grounds. We watched Downton on our little bus. Great time and recommend if you are a Downton fan.

The information given about the village and where things were filmed was even more interesting than the tour of the castle. The weather was unfortunate and we were drenched by the time we got into the house.

If you have a car drive yourself. There is nothing to see in the village they just show you pictures of where scenes where shot. Spend about an hour there then drove to the house for 2:30 showing. Grabbed some lunch which is served 11-2. They also have a bar. Tour of house itself is great! Gardens were lovely! On the minibus they play Season 1 of Downton Abbey Episodes 1-3. I thought there would be more commentary from guide. Michael rambled on on I feel asleep both to and fro

Chris was excellent. Very polite and informative. He kept the group on track when needed. The coach was clean and Paul, our driver, was skillful! Thank you for a great day!

  9. Amy_B

Absolutely a fantastic tour! Emma was our guide and was an absolute delight. The village was so picturesque and Highclere was just fantastic. Would totally go on the tour again.

Emma was a great host, and Dennis drove us safely over and back. We had to pinch ourselves throughout the day and say, “ I can’t believe we’re here!”

  11. Colleen_S

It was easy to book and everything was as it was explained in the tour information. Chris our tour guide was excellent. Friendly, charming, and informative. I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to experience “Downton Abbey” town and then get a glimpse of the real High Clare Castle.

Was a excellent tour, guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. My wife was totally enthralled with the castle would recommend this tour to others.

What an amazing excursion! We had the best weather for our trip to Highclerc Castle. We traveled by coach and enjoyed playing some Downton Abbey trivia with our host, Emma, who was amazing! We also were able to watch episodes of the show along our journey to Bampton. Bampton is the small village that was used for filming of the Downton village and is quaint and charming! We picked up lunch here and then traveled on to the castle. It is such a breathtaking sight when she starts to come into view and your excitement builds to get off the bus and enjoy the grounds. We were treated to a bit of an outside tour by our host, and then we were on our own to explore the grounds and gardens before our scheduled time to visit the house. Unfortunately, there is no photograph allowed inside the house, but it really is as it is depicted in the show. Lovely opportunity for champagne and treats outside at the conclusion of the tour, along with some shopping at the gift shop. Wonderful tour, highly recommended, well worth the time and money, and a great way to see the English countryside.

We had our tour on April 20, 2024. Our guide has a lot of knowledge regarding Downton Abbey. She made the tour fun! Thank you. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan like I am. 🙂

The village of Bampton & Highclere Castle are just as we have seen in the Downton Abbey TV series and movies. The charm of the village and the opulence of the castle are beautiful. The guide and driver were well informed, knowledgable and professional.

  16. JamesDavid_L

The guide Chris could not even get most of the characters names right. I put on my tour I wanted a signed copy of the book and he was no help in trying to get it. Then you can only take outside pictures. I traveled all the from the USA to come to highclere castle and take pictures and I was disappointed. The village is a joke. I have not like either of the tours I have did with viator but this guide sucked.

This was a nice experience to see the sites of the filming of Downton Abbey. It was a bit pricey though. The bus ride was about 2 hours each way. The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. I liked that we could tour the upstairs (no downstairs) of Highclere Castle independently. The hand out given by the bus guide of the rooms to be seen was a bit outdated and not tatally accurate. Still it was thrilling to see the rooms that we recognized while watching the show.

  18. Josephine_H

Our guide Mike was informative and funny. Our driver Nick navigated traffic and rough roads beautifully. The coach could have been more comfortable – tight seating and some had to ride facing backwards. Highclere itself is AMAZING and gorgeous. I particularly appreciated the stills from the show that were in various rooms so you could see yourself in that same place, as well as numerous family and personal photos of the family displayed throughout.

  19. Mary_D

The tour group was very accommodating. We were late getting to meeting place in London due to unexpected road closures. They tried to wait but a second bus was available and had room for us. Was kind of hoping for a smaller bus (this was one of those big coaches), but because it wasn’t full it didn’t seem too overwhelming when walking around the village.

Walking across the gallery & down the staircase was awesome. The library was stunning. If you’re a fan of ‘Downton Abbey ‘, this is a must do
