Felt a bit hectic at the beginning at the meet and getting into the colosseum. The guide gave some interesting facts, but a lot was lost in the delivery of this (a lot of facts were repeated, not much storytelling, struggled to hold my attention).
Length of the tour seemed appropriate.

We picked the 5:30pm time slot as we were travelling back to Rome from another city across lunchtime. At the very beginning of our Colosseum tour we were informed that the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill would be closing in 30minutes leaving us no time to see them. We were offered tickets to go to them the next day, but we were scheduled to leave to the airport at 6:00am. We shouldn’t have been able to purchase these tickets for our time slot if the other areas were closed and we couldn’t see them.

The tour was supposed to start at 5:30. While we were flying on a 9 hour flight to Rome we were sent a message that it was starting at 3:45. We had just arrived at our hotel then . We missed more than half the tour…did not get to Palatine Hill. Then the “tour” of the Colosseum was abysmal! The tour guide was hard to understand..the history he gave us was limited. We didn’t even get a full tour of the Colosseum! We saw none of the underground chambers , the cross,or many other areas. All in all it was an absolute waste of our money.$200 for 2 people which made it one of the more expensive tours ! The guide was with us for about 40 minutes…he gave a useless 10 minute talk before he took us to the arena and then 10 minutes at the end to look around and take pictures! I truly feel we should be refunded for this entire tour! I feel this was a total waste of our money!

Great tour. Great tour guide! Could have gone on forever…unfortunately everything comes to an end!

Enjoyed the tour on the colosseo while learning about its history and structure. Glad to skip the line coz they were def long.
Danielle_M –
The tour actually starts 2 hours before the posted time to first do a self tour of Palatine Hill. Then you go to the Colosseum for an hour tour. But you spend 30 minutes of it in line waiting to get in. The tour guide was very knit but Not really worth the money.

We arrived 15 minutes early, found the man with the correct flag and I gave him my voucher I printed from Viatour as directed. He said he needed to verify with his company, fine with me. While he was waiting I showed him the email I received from Viatour the day before confirming the paid for tour at 3:30 on June 1, 2024. He finished his call and said the tour was canceled they had texted me. I do not receive texts in Europe only email. He repeated tour canceled you get 100% money back. He said we could wait and possibly get in with the 5:30 tour but we couldn’t. This inside tour of the coliseum was to be a highlight of Italy for my grandchildren. I am very surprised Viatour would contract with this company. This was very frustrating and upsetting.

Terrible experience!! Our tour guide texted me the night before our tour @1130pm to notify me that our tour was moved 1.5hr earlier. When i told him we were coming from airport he said it was better to cancel tour. Following day he agreed to original start time. Due to airport transportation/no running trains I notified him 2hr before tour we were unable to make it by 330pm.
Guide says we were no call/no show and refuses refund which I think due to situation out of my control a partial refund should be given

This was not a “skip the line” ticket- we were there on a day tickets were free, so our tour group cut the line of people that were waiting to get in. We were embarrassed to be cutting a very long line and felt very unfair to the people waiting. The tour group company should have waited in that line and gotten tickets for our group instead of us cutting hundred of people. Our tour guide was good once we got going, but it was chaotic to get to that point.

Awful, awful, AWFUL. Do not book this trip it’ll be the most stressful tour of the colosseum. Not only is the meeting point SO unorganized, the men running this tour are incredibly rude and do not care about you. We booked our tour for 1:30pm and did not get inside the colosseum until 2:20pm. Not to mention that our guide spoke ZERO English and gave us the most random 2nd grade facts about the Colosseum. It’s a shame that we had to see the Colosseum this way. Whatever you do, don’t book a tour with them.
(Note to Viator): I strongly encourage you to remove this experience from your site. We book through Viator a lot and have never had a bad experience up until this one. It shines a really bad light on your company.
Kathryn_V –
Our tour guide was wonderful, but overall not a good experience. The company either over booked our time slot or didn’t have enough equipment to accommodate everyone, but we didn’t get into the colosseum until two and a half hours later than our scheduled booking.
The company representatives at the location were extremely disorganized, unhelpful, and uncommunicative. Our access to the Roman Forum was also cut short due to our guides. You are supposed to have unlimited free time to explore the forum after the colosseum, but due to their mistakes we had to go to the forum beforehand and only got to spend about 50 minutes inside.
Would not recommend to anyone with other time commitments, or anyone wanting to see more than one thing in one day.
Alexis_P –
The tour was ok. The headsets did not work well and you could barely hear the guide. Would suggest a smaller group.
Victoria_B –
Our tour of the Colosseum was chaotic. We had a tour guide from Egypt, who, while he spoke English, had an accent that was very difficult to understand. We know that being in another country requires us to process and understand language barriers, but that was only the beginning. In addition, he presented information about the site in a “conspiracy theory” way. “My colleagues will tell you this, but they are wrong…. the truth is this…” In addition, he spent several minutes praising Mussolini and telling us how smart he was. We should have just done skip the line and toured on our own.

We were told that the group would be 25 people or less. In fact it was over 40. The audio equipment was less than satisfactory. We were told we would have full access to the forum and palatine hill. This was not true. We were stopped going into casa di augusto and we only had an hour to explore both which was far from sufficient, you need at least an hour on each part as this was not a guided tour. When we asked Ali about this he ignored us and moved away. We felt really disappointed as we had to (I kid you not) run around the forum so we could get to the palatine hill then run around that. We were shattered by the time we got to the colosseum. we were supposed to be in colosseum at 17.30 but because of numbers, we didn’t get in til gone 18.00. To be fair our guide around this was very informative but again there was insufficient time. We paid over 100€ each for this less than adequate service. Do not take this tour. It would be far better to wait in line and get an audio tour

This guide Benjamin was so well versed and taught so much of the culture that was going on during this epic. History wow, this is loaded when compared to our country. This one was with the money!
Rudolf_W –
Our tour guide Freddy was pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. He made every effort to ensure our group was accounted for and comfortable. Quite an achievement considering the crowds of other tourists. My wife thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend Freddy as your tour guide.
Dawne_M –
Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable and helped to make our experience enjoyable. He also found spots we could gather where there were no crowds to take pictures.
Alexandra_H –
Guide wasn’t that excited but exactly what we needed for a quick tour. Easy to find the group and left on time.
Edgar_V –
Our guide was very knowledgeable and didn’t rush through anything. He knew my father had trouble keeping up and always offered the elevator when available.
Janet_Q –
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Rome. Our guide was excellent and had some great insights / historical information that really added to the experience.
