Bangkok

Business and holiday travel accommodation, bookings, reviews and comments for the best price in last minute hotel specials.Bangkok, directly translated into English is known as the City lf angels, and was constructed in 1782. It is on of Asias most fascinating Cities, it is not only a great shopping destination, but also has an amazing culture and history ready to be explored.

Some of the most visited destinations in Bangkok include: The Grand Palace where you can see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, The Temple of Dawn, and the Chao Phraya River. When visiting the Temples, remember to dress respectively, that means no slops/thongs, shorts, and your shoulders must be covered.

Another major activity in Bangkok is shopping. In my opinion the shopping does not only live up to its reputation, it far exceeds it. The cheapest places to shop are the markets, for example the Patpong Night Bazaar, however if you are looking for the bargains and a bit of comfort MBK Shopping centre is a must see. Duty Free Shopping Centers are encouraged by tour guides in Bangkok, if you are looking for complete luxury and are prepared to pay for this luxury the World Trade Centre must be in your to visit list.

Some fantastic tours are operated on the Chao Phraya River, including lovely sea food dinners, a very romantic option. For those of you on a budget there is a tourist ferry that runs up and down the river, with running commentary of the passing attractions. This is an extremely cheap means of seeing the river sights and can also be used as a great form of transportation.

The cheapest form of transportation is the local Bus, however for a little bit extra; you can get an air-conditioned taxi. Taxis are very cheap in Bangkok, and must more convenient in a foreign city. Make sure that the taxi driver has turned the meter to avoid a hefty fare. To experience the real Bangkok, and a bit of an adventure take a tok tok to some of your destinations.

Bangkok is a buzzing city with a large variety of different activities, from temples, river cruises, shopping, markets, crocodile shows etc. The markets, for example Patpong, have large varieties of “everything” but remember do not buy the first thing you see, as there are others out there, and bargaining is a must. Some things you can automatically knock 50% off. Remember, they expect you to negotiate, and they will not sell it at a loss. Patpong also has a festive night life, defiantly not suitable for young children, so if you have your kids with you, don’t stay too late into the night. The markets at China Town are much cheaper, however they do not have as large a variety of goods. Getting around Bangkok is very affordable, especially if you are close to the city centre or China Town. All major attractions are a reasonable taxi fare away. Remember always make sure your taxi is metered, most taxi drivers ask for B200 however the trip will only cost B5-50 if metered. Some may tell you that it is peak hour, so it will be cheaper to have a set price, don’t be fooled, if you are stuck in traffic, the meter slows down. There is also a sky train, this is a good option as you are not delayed by traffic, and may be affordable if you are a single traveller. If you are in a small group, a taxi is a lot cheaper. For novelty purposes, you can take a tuk tuk, however expect to pay for the “privilege”, it will cost more than double a taxi as it has become a bit of an attraction. If you are going to Chaing Mai, save the tuk tuk ride, it is much cheaper there, as is most things.
