Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie is located 595 kilometres east of Perth and is Australia�s largest outback city. European settlement of Kalgoorlie began in June 1893 with the discovery of gold. Kalgoorlie's gold rush had begun and by 1903 and the town boasted a population of 30,000, along with 93 hotels and 8 breweries.

While in Kalgoorie visit the Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame, it is located 7km north of Kalgoorie, and contains $25 million of interactive and educational attractions of the past, present and futuore of the mining industry. Regular underground tours, gold-panning and gold pours are conducted. Kalgoorie�s museum the Kalgoorie Boulder has a great lookout with panoramic views of the city, as well as providing an excellent introduction to the history of Kalgoorie. There is an amazing collection of gold nuggets, gold coins and gold jewellery. The museum is open daily from 10am to 4pm. The School of Mines rock and Mineral Museum is a smaller museum, but houses some great replicas of gold nuggets including the 32 kg Golden Eagle found in 1931.
