This was a layover tour but I would highly recommend the company “My Local Guide Istanbul” to anyone visiting Istanbul for any length of time. Everyone involved in our visit from our main contact Salih, to our drivers, and especially our tour guide, were professional, courteous, and very accommodating. Any questions we had about our tour or any problems we encountered were quickly resolved.
Our tour was tailor made especially for us. Our tour guide made us feel like we were visiting the city with an old friend. His knowledge of the mosques, local religion, churches, museums, grand bazaar, and history of the city were exceptional.
We booked around 30 tours from various companies while visiting the Mediterranean and this trip ranks in the top 1%.

Every part of the tour was great and totally worth it. From the pickup/meeting instruction and ease to get to the meeting point to our customized tour itself, everything was great! Salih is very knowledgeable and friendly, and did a amazing job taking us to the most important points of the city on our short 2.5hr tour. Just come ready to walk with comfortable shoes and ready to immerse into Istanbul’s rich culture. Completely recommend it! Don’t look elsewhere if you want a private customizable tour guide.

Salih was an excellent guide .He is an expert on the history and in Istanbul in general. We had an 8 hr layover but you get effectively 4/5 hrs and he planned everything nicely . Even though it was Jan 1 st and traffic was heavy , he made sure we leave a bit early to reach airport in time . We had excellent food and sight seeing . We saw the mosques , the cistern, spice market and had some great street food ( kebabs and baklava) It would have been great if we had more time , maybe next time 😊 . All in all a very memorable trip and highly recommended , however i will say stay one night to get more time.

Great tour! I got to see everything I wanted to and then some. Yes, everything is close by, but having a guide is definitely worth it. I had time for shopping, the bosphorus tour and even visited a Hamam! I’ll definitely be doing this again on my next trip!

On our way back from Europe to Australia, my teenage son and I stopped for one day in Istanbul. With only limited time available we decided to book a private tour; although this was a more expensive alternative than going out on our own, it proved to be a great decision. Our guide Salih, a very knowledgeable and easy going individual, tailored our tour to suit our time available, interests and dare to say personalities, helping us to get the most out of that day. We not only learnt a lot about the rich Turkish history and culture by visiting touristic destinations, but we also got to experience a bit of the locals’ way of life by having a tasty lunch in a lovely little restaurant hidden away from the busy tourist-filled area, taking the ferry with the locals, having baklavas in a beautiful caffe and getting all our questions about the local lifestyle answered with humour and honesty. All in all, we left Istanbul that evening feeling impressed and excited about what this amazing city has to offer, but also with a strong wish to return for a longer, more comprehensive visit.

I cannot rate this trip highly enough. After initially booking I received clear communication straight away. Salih took the time to understand what I was trying to do, advised me on better areas to stay and clearly thought about my whole trip.
I had one day in Istanbul. I was travelling back to the UK for my grandmothers funeral. I had the opportunity to stay over in Istanbul briefly. I have very fond memories of exploring cities on our holidays as a child and given that my stopover was on what would have been her 102 birthday, it seemed right to revisit those memories exploring a city I know she would love and I’d always wanted to go. Salih and his team made this possible. I landed at 5.55am, followed his clear instructions, was travelling to my hotel by 6.35 and just after 7 was met by my guide for the day Onder. Onder is just a wonderful, knowledgeable and generous human being. I spent most of the day exploring the city with him, the known sites, the parts of the city that he felt (and I agree) are special, saw the Asian and the European side and experienced local food. It was an amazing day. To top it off I had arranged a return airport connection with Salih. It was an early 5am start. The driver was there waiting at 4.45. Attention to detail, genuine care and pride and love for the city and country they represent. As I said, I cannot recommend highly enough.

Great experience, private pick-up from my hotel in the morning and to the airport after the tour. Two tea/coffee breaks included. 100% walking tour and there is not a place to store bags so you need to make alternate arrangements or be prepared to carry everything with you. A backpack worked well for me. Very knowledgeable guide with good English. Great way to see the highlights of Istanbul if you have 5-6 hours to spare.

This was our first time to Turkey and we only had an 15 hour layover – the ease of getting picked up/dropped off with no worries was worth the cost. Everyone was so accommodating. We can’t say enough good things about our guide Onder. He is English was excellent and was so knowledgeable on history. We ended with a fun lunch trying some local dishes. Hope to be back soon!

This was a wonderful use of a long layover in Istanbul! In fact, it made us want to intentionally schedule long layovers from now on! Our tour guide was wonderful, personable, and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Salih! The only thing that caught us off guard was that it was a walking tour, not a car tour. In the descriptions we read about a car with AC so we assumed we would also have a car. Unfortunately, it was quite cold and having come from a tropical climate, we were unprepared. Salih was very kind to share his jacket but advance notice of the walking element would have been helpful.

This worked out so wonderfuly. We had the driver take us to meet the guide. We was great and took us everywhere. He had a lot of knowledge and for the first time ever, didn’t seem like he was paid to take us to an overpriced shop to buy things. (I’ve had that experience many times in the past) He actually said, don’t buy here..to expensive. Then took us to authentic food. He was very kind.

Salih was gracious and very knowledgeable, with stories that helped bring the history alive.
My layover was 10 hours reduced to about 9 by flight delays from Muscat, but he was able to accommodate. We managed to see a lot (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Cistern, Last Station of the Orient Express and the Bosporus) during my time there without feeling rushed at all.
I’ve included the photo of the scarf shop because the owner gave us the time of day and coffee with a variety of Turkish confectionary. And so, I was able to get mother day gifts which were very well received, along with great site seeing.
Advice for taking the tour would, be: store your luggage at the airport, but in doing that on returning, ask to dropped off at door 10 in departures, since that is the security entrance needed get you back to the left luggage location at door 13.
Also, read the instructions sent via Whatsapp they are accurate for timing and what to do before you take the tour.
All round this was an excellent break between flights and an experience I will remember well. Thank you.
